A Brief History of Trinity Presbyterian in Laurinburg, NC

In 1962, Mr. Oscar B. McCormick gifted land on Blues Farm Road to Laurinburg Presbyterian Church with the request that a church be built on the south end of town. Two years later, on October 4th, 1964, Trinity Presbyterian Church had their first Session meeting and Mr. McCormick was an Elder and Session member. Almost immediately, the Session began making plans to develop the site that Mr. McCormick had gifted. The Session decided on the architecture firm of Hayes and Howell from Southern Pines to draw up the plans and J.P. Phifer Construction was the company hired to do the construction. According to old Session minutes, a groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 28th, 1966. In July 1967, the building now used for our Fellowship Hall and schools was dedicated. Sadly, Mr. McCormick passed away in 1968. Trinity’s education building is named in his honor and a plaque can be seen on the wall as you enter the building. The preschool was begun in 1966 and was the first in the community. In 1979 phase two of the campus buildings was completed, including the current sanctuary and offices. Prior to the sanctuary being built, worship services were held in the current fellowship hall.
